Prof. Hubert Locke Dear Prof. Locke: The Washington News CouncilĂs formal Complaint
Hearing in the case of Hubert Locke vs. The Seattle Times is
scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 13, at
9:30 a.m. at Town Hall Seattle (Seneca Space, lower level),
Eighth Avenue and Seneca Street. In the correspondence we have received from Michael
Fancher, most notably his Oct. 4 letter to you, he indicated that The
Seattle Times will not participate in the hearing. We have written a
letter (copy enclosed) urging him to reconsider. He can do that anytime
up to 9:30 a.m. Saturday. In the same spirit, some of our members have
suggested that we urge you once more to seek a resolution with The
Times before the hearing, and perhaps to meet with them. The
Washington News Council respectfully requests that you consider calling
Mr. Fancher to discuss this. We know time is very short, but if there is any way
you can resolve this dispute before 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, we encourage
you to do so. The WNCĂs primary goal is to help settle complaints
without a formal Complaint Hearing. We are, of course, fully prepared to
go ahead with the hearing. Please let us know as soon as possible if any
progress is made toward resolution. Sincerely yours, Members of the Washington News Council Eddie Reed, President Herb Robinson, Vice President R.T. Nelson, Secretary Walt Howe, Treasurer Larry Cali Don Brunell Thomas Cock Jr. Chuck Dunsire Sue Frause Bill Gates Sr. Margaret Gordon Susan Han Pat Herbold Charles Nordhoff Mike Poulson Cliff Rowe Wes Uhlman R.Y.
